Fracture of Tibia Intercondylar Eminence

Abstract
Fracture of tibia intercondylar eminence has a clinical importance in aspect of associated ligament injury and ligament avulsion of motion and instability of knee joint.
In type IIIb fracture, according to Meyers and Mckeever, Man authors recommend open reduction and internal fixation. In other types of fracture (type I, II, IIIa), they prefer conservative treatment. When tibia intercondylar eminence fracture is
associated with bone and soft tissue inury around knee joint or with multiple injury, the authors treated it with open reduction, if possible.
The results of treatment of 24 cases were analyzed & evaluated at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Pusan national University Hosital from Jan. 1988 to Aug. 1991.
1. Of 24 cases, 2 cases were at age below 15, and the others were at age above 16.
2. the most frequent type of fracture was type II (58%), according to the Meyers and McKeever classification.
3. The most common cause of injury was traffic accident (67%), and the associated ligament injuries on the same knee were rupture of MCL in 9 cases and LCL in 2 cases.
4. Among sixteen cases of open reduction and internal fization, 14 cases (88%) had a good result in follow-up study.
5. Among 8 cases treated conservatively, 6 cases (75%) had a good result & 2 cases had poor results in follow-up study.
